🏀 High-Tech Hoops Coming to North Oakville

shoot360.com

Oakville council has unanimously approved a new commercial fitness centre for north Oakville, which will feature the second Canadian location of U.S.-based basketball training franchise, Shoot 360.

Planned for 65-89 Loyalist Trail by Tafia Development Corporation, the centre will include a gymnastics club, indoor playground, and multi-sport areas for soccer, badminton, pickleball, and basketball. The highlight: a state-of-the-art Shoot 360 facility equipped with advanced cameras and sensors designed to enhance basketball skills.

“It’s not just any basketball court,” said franchise operator Majed Abukhater. “All the NBA teams use it, including the Toronto Raptors... I’m just excited we would be bringing something like this to Oakville.”

❄️ Spring Takes a Timeout with Monday Snow

Just as Oakville was starting to thaw, winter’s making an annoying comeback. A quick-hitting snow system is set to sweep through Sunday night into Monday morning, dropping up to 5 cm across Halton and the GTA — just in time to mess with the commute.

Gusty winds up to 70 km/h will add to the mess, blowing snow around and reducing visibility, especially near the lakes. It might start with freezing rain or ice pellets before switching to wet snow, making for slushy, slick roads.

While it’ll warm slightly Monday afternoon, don’t get too excited — forecasters say colder-than-normal temps are likely to stick around through the end of March. So much for an early spring.

🏘️ Oakville Radio Towers Could Be Replaced by 142 Homes

A long-standing cluster of radio towers at Dundas Street and Fourth Line in north Oakville could soon be history, as Argo Lions Valley Ltd. proposes a new 142-home subdivision for the site.

The plan includes a mix of detached houses and townhomes, aiming to boost housing options while preserving nearby natural areas like Sixteen Mile Creek and Lions Valley Park. Developer reps say the location is ideal for residential growth, with easy access to parks, services, and schools.

🛍️ Bronte BIA Rallies Shoppers to Support Local

Oakville’s Bronte BIA has kicked off a new campaign urging residents to shop local, tying into the national “Shop Main Street Canada” initiative. The push comes amid renewed tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, reinforcing the importance of supporting homegrown businesses.

“This campaign is about more than just shopping locally, it’s about making a conscious choice to invest in the future of our community,” said Kylie Wilson, Bronte BIA’s executive director.

To boost engagement, the BIA is offering a $1,000 gift card giveaway. Shoppers who spend at least $15 at any Bronte business before the end of April can enter by submitting their receipts. A free tool kit of marketing materials has also been made available to local businesses to help spread the message.

🥅 Four Oakville Stars to Represent Canada at Worlds

Nala Burton/The PWHL | Oakville News

Oakville hockey talent will be on full display as four local players suit up for Team Canada at the Women’s World Championship in Czechia.

Veteran Brianne Jenner (Ottawa Charge) is back for her 11th Worlds, bringing Olympic and World Championship gold medal experience. Sarah Fillier (New York Sirens), a former Oakville Hornets captain, enters the tournament as one of Canada’s top offensive threats, currently sitting second in PWHL scoring.

Emma Maltais (Toronto Scepters), another Hornets alum, brings her Olympic gold and four-time World Championship experience to the forward group. And rounding out the Oakville quartet is Kristin O’Neill (Montreal Victoire), set to compete in her fifth World Championship.

All four are key to Canada’s quest to defend their gold after last year’s wild 6–5 OT win over the U.S. Let’s go, Canada! 🇨🇦
