🇺🇸 Oakville Keeps U.S. Flags Flying, Despite Tariff Tensions

Toronto Star Photo
While Mississauga is pulling down American flags in protest of U.S. trade tariffs, Oakville is taking a different approach. The town has confirmed it will continue displaying the U.S. flag at sports centres and other facilities.
“At the Town of Oakville, we value and foster the relationship we have with American athletes and their families who visit our town,” read an official statement.
But Oakville isn’t staying quiet on the issue. In response to what Mayor Rob Burton calls a “tariff attack on Canada,” a town task force is reviewing local contracts with U.S. suppliers and looking at how to shift purchasing to Canadian sources. The team is also working with Oakville businesses hit by the trade dispute to find ways to support them.
🗳 Federal Election Expected as Soon as April 28

The Canadian Press
Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to call a federal election on Sunday, with voting possibly as early as April 28. While the exact date isn’t confirmed, campaigns must run at least 37 days.
Carney, sworn in as prime minister last week, has already hit the ground running—traveling abroad and making a stop in Iqaluit to assert Canada’s sovereignty amid U.S. annexation threats. With parties gearing up and leaders hitting the campaign trail, election season is about to kick into high gear.
