🏪 Jysk Oakville Store Closes for Good

Jysk has officially closed its Oakville location at Kerr Street and Speers Road as of Sunday, May 11. The Danish home goods retailer had been part of the Oakville Commons plaza since 2011. The closure comes amid ongoing talk of major redevelopment in the area. Dollarama is rumoured to be moving into the space, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
🏠 Oakville Housing Update for April
Oakville’s housing market saw a jump in prices last month, with the average home selling for $1.51 million in April, up 4 percent from March. But compared to April 2024, prices were still down about 5 percent. Sales slowed significantly, with just 223 homes sold, a 22 percent drop from last year. Meanwhile, listings soared with 1,346 homes on the market, an 87 percent increase.
Detached homes stayed the priciest at $2.03 million, while townhouse-style condos saw the biggest monthly price jump, rising nearly 8 percent. Attached homes were the only type to drop in value. Homes took about 27 days to sell on average.
🏡 New Program to Help Domestic Violence Survivors Rebuild
A new provincial grant of nearly $877,000 will support Haven to Home, a one-year program helping 33 Halton families move from shelter to stable housing. Announced at Halton Women’s Place in Burlington, the initiative is a partnership with Oakville-based Home Suite Hope. Along with housing, families will receive life skills training, job support, and other resources to help them become self-sufficient. The program aims to provide more than just a place to live—it’s about building a fresh start.

📦 Oakville Mom and Teen Turn Lockdown Idea into Thriving Business

Oakville News
During the early days of lockdown, Oakville’s Heidi and Sienna Avery turned a simple idea into Ruby Crate, a seasonal subscription box for teen and tween girls. Launched in 2020, the boxes are filled with fun surprises like skincare, accessories, and Canadian-made products, all packed with personal touches. What started as a creative project quickly gained momentum.
Now shipping over 5,000 boxes a year across Canada and the U.S., the business has expanded to include boxes for younger kids and students. Sienna, now 17, helps choose products and runs their social media, while Heidi handles the operations. The pair say the best part has been working together and building something they both believe in.
🐾 Pet Spotlight: Meet Dudley!

Dudley is a playful 4-year-old hound with a big personality and a love for fetch. He’s smart, food-motivated, and walks well on leash once he gets his zoomies out. Dudley is looking for an experienced, adult-only home where he can be the only pet. A backyard and continued training would make this goofy guy very happy!
