🍝 Restaurant Spotlight: Episode 1

Do you love trying out new restaurants here in Oakville? Well you’re in luck, we have started a new series over on Instagram where we try and review restaurants here in town. Episode one was Ritorno, an Italian favourite located at 261 Oak Walk Drive. Check it out! ⬇️

🏛 Petition Grows to Protect Halton Heritage

A local petition pushing Halton Region to keep its heritage services has gathered over 700 signatures in just a week. The Region plans to close the division and transfer more than 30,000 artifacts to local museums and institutions, with some possibly ending up at auction. Georgetown’s Kevin Reid-Morris says smaller groups may not have the space or resources to handle the collection, which includes archival records, photographs, furniture, uniforms, tools, and about 20 Indigenous artifacts.

Halton council voted last July to wind down services by January 2026 after a closed-door review, but critics say residents and Indigenous communities were left out of the process. The Region says the transfer will be gradual and follow national museum guidelines. Reid-Morris hopes growing public support will convince leaders to change course, saying heritage is essential to understanding and preserving the community’s identity.

📋 Big Brothers Big Sisters Recruiting Board Member

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit that connects young people with mentors to provide guidance, friendship and support. Serving communities across Halton, Hamilton and Grand Erie, the group is now looking for a volunteer board member to help shape its future. The role includes setting policies, ensuring financial stability, working with budgets and contributing to board committees.

Applicants with experience in small business, healthcare, technology, community services or fundraising are encouraged to apply, and the organization welcomes candidates from diverse backgrounds, including racialized groups, Indigenous people and LGBTQ individuals. CVs can be sent to Executive Director Michael Treadgold by Friday, Aug. 22.
