🍽️ Hexagon Soars to No. 14 on Canada’s Top 100 List

Hexagon Restaurant

Oakville’s Hexagon restaurant has climbed to new heights on the Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants list, rising to 14th place in the 2025 rankings. This marks a continued ascent for the downtown hotspot, which ranked 26th last year and 34th the year before.

The publication credits much of the success to chef Rafa Covarrubias and his open kitchen team, highlighting chef de cuisine Jordan Wilkinson and sous chef Victoria Rinsma. Their tasting menu showcases Covarrubias’s Mexican roots and global flair, with standout dishes like aguachile of dry-aged kampachi.

Located on Lakeshore Road East, Hexagon has garnered national attention for its refined service, growing wine program, and sleek, modern space overlooking Towne Square. It also received a Michelin star in September 2024, cementing its status as a culinary destination beyond Oakville’s borders.

🍺 Two Oakville Beer Stores to Close This Summer

Oakville will lose two of its long-standing Beer Store locations this July as part of a province-wide consolidation by the chain. The stores at 104 Lakeshore Road West and the Upper Oakville Shopping Plaza (1011 Upper Middle Road) will officially close on July 6.

The closures come as The Beer Store adapts to changing consumer habits, with beer now more widely available in grocery and convenience stores. “We know this will be disappointing to many customers and our valued employees,” said Ozzie Ahmed, Vice President of Retail, noting the decision is tied to business sustainability efforts.

The Beer Store is jointly operated by major brewers Molson Coors, Labatt, and Sleeman, alongside smaller shareholders. While store numbers are shrinking, the company says it remains committed to customer service and its efficient bottle return program. Similar closures are also planned in Toronto, Windsor, Richmond Hill, and Aurora.

🎬 Reacher Star Thanks Oakville

Amazon Prime’s Reacher wrapped its third season in March, and part of its gritty action was brought to life right in downtown Oakville. Star Alan Ritchson expressed his gratitude to Oakville Film for their support during production, even sending a signed photo with the message, “Oakville Film! Thanks for all the help this season. Best.”

Key scenes, including underwater shots, were filmed at the decommissioned Centennial Pool, which recently received official film accreditation from the provincial film commission. The use of local facilities like this highlights Oakville’s growing reputation as a desirable filming location.

Ritchson, known for roles in Titans, Fast X, and Smallville, credited the local support for contributing to the show’s success. As more productions take notice, Oakville’s profile in the film industry is clearly on the rise.

🧑‍🌾 Oakville Civitan Farmers’ Market Recap

The Oakville Civitan Farmers' Market kicked off its 2025 season on May 3 at Dorval Crossing East Plaza, drawing over 1,500 visitors for a lively mix of food, music, and community spirit. Alongside returning vendors like Roberts Farms and EatWell 1978, opening day featured a unique addition: the Curiosity Cube, a mobile science lab exploring artificial intelligence through interactive games for kids.

Brought in by MilliporeSigma and supported by the Oakville Public Library, the Cube made its only Greater Toronto-Halton stop here, attracting over 400 curious minds. The market will continue every Saturday through November, with proceeds supporting local charities and performances from Oakville’s arts community scheduled throughout the season.
