News
🏡 Oakville Home Prices Rise, but Sales Slow Down

Oakville’s housing market saw big changes in February. The average home price jumped to $1.5 million, up 11.2% from January. But while prices climbed, sales dropped 33.2% compared to last year. At the same time, the number of available homes more than doubled, giving buyers more choices.
Detached homes saw the biggest price increase, averaging $2.11 million (up 14.1% from last month). Semi-detached homes, however, fell 19.1% to $992,333. Apartment-style condos also dropped 14.9% from January but stayed 2% higher than last year.
Despite recent ups and downs, Oakville’s real estate market has grown a lot over time. Since 2015, home prices have risen by 71.8%
🚗 Tesla Takes a Dive in Bronte Harbour

Like in a scene straight out of a movie, three unidentified men were spotted pushing a black Tesla into Bronte Harbour around 1:30 a.m. on March 8. Witnesses say the car made a mysterious stop near the Marine Tavern Pub before the trio took turns behind the wheel—then sent it swimming.
Police recovered the vehicle later that afternoon, but the motive remains a mystery. Was it a prank, a crime, or just a really bad parking job?
🌕 How to Watch This Week’s Total Lunar Eclipse in Ontario
Get ready for a celestial show early Friday morning as the moon turns a deep red during a total lunar eclipse—the first visible in Canada since 2022. This “blood moon” event will last 65 minutes as the moon moves into Earth’s shadow.
Here’s the timeline for the GTA:
Partial eclipse begins – Thursday, March 13 at 11:57 p.m.
Total eclipse peak – Friday, March 14 at 2:59 a.m.
Eclipse ends – Around 6 a.m.
No special glasses are needed, and while a telescope can enhance the view, a dark, open space away from city lights is best. If the clouds cooperate, you’ll have a great chance to see it.

🌱 Honouring Douglas Guthrie: The Man Behind Oakville’s Farmers' Market

Submitted by the Guthrie Family to Oakville News
For decades, Douglas Guthrie was more than just the founder of Oakville’s longest-running outdoor farmers’ market—he was its heart. Always checking in on vendors and greeting shoppers with a smile, he created a welcoming space that brought the community together. As a longtime member of the Civitan Club of Oakville, he dedicated himself to helping others, often working behind the scenes to support local charities and initiatives.
"There are lives that give back, quietly, for years, without attention drawn to them," said Al McMullan of the Civitan Club. "Doug Guthrie was one such individual." That dedication is now being honoured through the Douglas Guthrie Legacy Fund, which will provide $120,000 to support adults with disabilities and expand mental health services in Oakville and Halton Region.
Even after his passing in 2024, Guthrie’s impact continues to be felt—proof that a lifetime of small, meaningful actions can leave a lasting legacy.
🇨🇦 Bronte Marina Searching for New Flag Caretaker

For the past two years, Jason and Angele Montplaisir have ensured the Canadian flag at Bronte Marina remained in top shape. Now, they’re stepping down and hoping someone will continue the tradition.
"We have a deep love for Canada and all that the flag stands for," said Jason. The flag became a special symbol for the couple during their walks by the harbour. Before retiring from the role, they replaced it one last time on February 26.
Anyone interested in maintaining the flag can contact Jason at [email protected].
