🦊 Coyote Safety Tips for Spring Walks
With spring in full swing, Oakville residents are more likely to spot coyotes in local parks and green spaces. To help keep everyone safe, town staff are reminding the public of a few simple precautions. If you encounter a coyote, use hazing techniques by standing tall, waving your arms, clapping, and shouting. This startles the animal and encourages it to move away.
Just as important, never run. Coyotes may interpret running as prey behavior, which can trigger their instinct to chase. Instead, back away slowly while maintaining eye contact.
For pet owners, keeping dogs on a leash and close at hand is essential. Allowing a pet to run after a coyote can lead to dangerous confrontations. By staying calm and prepared, residents can enjoy the season safely while coexisting with Oakville’s local wildlife.
❤️ Local Partnership Promotes Dignity and Access
United Way Halton & Hamilton is partnering with Canadian company joni to provide free feminine hygiene products through its Period Promise campaign. Supplies will be distributed to schools, shelters, and community agencies across Halton, aiming to ease access for those affected by rising living costs.
The initiative also includes the launch of BLEED, a new book by joni featuring stories that highlight the importance of menstrual equity. Proceeds from the book will support United Way’s efforts, helping ensure Oakville and surrounding communities have access to essential care with dignity.

👟 Oakville Dad Rolls Into the Record Books

Oakville News | Baby Jogger
In a world record category most people don’t know exists, Oakville’s Brenden Neely just became the fastest man to run 1 km while pushing a stroller. With 17-month-old son Jack along for the ride, Neely clocked an eye-popping 2 minutes and 51 seconds, crushing the previous Guinness World Record by 28 seconds.
The May 1 feat was the result of months of training and a partnership with Baby Jogger, who provided the gear, and likely some moral support. “We trained hard, and Jack didn’t complain once,” Neely said. While it might not be an Olympic event (yet), Oakville can now claim bragging rights in the surprisingly competitive world of high-speed parenting.
🌟 Honouring 25 Years of Quiet Heroes in Oakville

Oakville News
This week, Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation celebrated an extraordinary group of Oakville volunteers who’ve spent the last 25 years giving their time, compassion, and energy to support those living with cancer. Eleven long-time volunteers were recognized at Birmingham Gilgan House for their unwavering commitment since the centre opened its doors.
From front desk support to peer mentorship, these volunteers have helped create a space of warmth and healing. Many, like Linda Shakespeare, were personally touched by cancer and found purpose in giving back. “When you do something you love, the time just flies,” she shared. With 25 years of service behind them, their dedication stands as a quiet but powerful testament to community care in Oakville.
