🗳️ Oakville Elects PC Candidates in 2025 Provincial Election

Triantafilopoulos campaign photo

Oakville’s two provincial ridings will remain under Progressive Conservative (PC) representation following the 2025 provincial election. Stephen Crawford was re-elected in Oakville, while Effie Triantafilopoulos secured another term in Oakville North-Burlington.

Voter turnout was slightly above the provincial average, with 48.79% of Oakville voters and 46.49% in Oakville North-Burlington casting ballots. The election saw the PCs form another majority government, while the NDP remained the official opposition. The Ontario Liberal Party faced setbacks, including leader Bonnie Crombie’s defeat in her riding.

Key election issues included economic concerns, education, housing, health care, and transit. While the PCs campaigned on economic stability and infrastructure, the Liberals focused on expanding access to education and health care. The NDP emphasized affordability and transit improvements, while the Green Party prioritized rural health care and climate initiatives.

With another term secured, Oakville’s elected representatives will continue work on local priorities, including infrastructure, job growth, and community development.

🐾 Pet of the Week: Snowball & Snowman Will Warm Your Heart

OMHS Photo

Meet Snowball and Snowman, a bonded pair of 12-year-old brothers looking for a loving home! Despite their chilly names, these affectionate cats are sure to bring warmth and cuddles to any household.

Snowman, with his fluffy long hair, adores lap time, chin rubs, and playful moments with crinkly toys. His brother Snowball, who has sleek shorter fur, enjoys cozy naps and chatting with his humans—he may be deaf, but he has plenty to say! Both are great with kids and love attention.

They’re currently on a vet-prescribed diet as Snowball is in remission from diabetes, and Snowman is shedding a few pounds. Could you be their perfect match?

Find out more or start the adoption process at omhs.ca or call the Oakville & Milton Humane Society at 905-845-1551. If they’ve found a home, consider adopting another furry friend in need!

Hou and Xu will officially begin their roles on August 1, working alongside trustees to support student learning, achievement, and well-being across Halton schools.

🏵️ Oakville Commemorates 205th Treaty Day

Town of Oakville

February 28 marks Treaty Day in Oakville, recognizing the 205th anniversary of Treaty 22, which covers lands at 12 Mile Creek and 16 Mile Creek. Oakville is located on the treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, part of the Anishinaabe Nation, whose traditional territory spans 3.9 million acres of southern Ontario.

To honour this history, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation flag is permanently flown at Oakville Town Hall. A free Treaty Day event will take place at 5 p.m. at the Oakville Public Library Central Branch, featuring guest speakers Emma Stelter and Georgia LaForme. The discussion will explore treaty relationships and reconciliation, with attendees invited to sign the Acts of Allyship Commitment Form.

"Governments won’t fix racism or enable true reconciliation. It has to be the people of Canada who do the work and make it happen," said Elder Peter Schuler of the Debwewin Advisory Council.
