🌞 Explore Oakville Patios

With summer winding down, Oakville has launched a handy interactive map to help you soak up the season on a sunny patio. The town’s Commercial Patio Program lets businesses register patios located on municipal property, making them easy to find for locals eager to enjoy outdoor dining before the chill returns.

Whether you’re after a lakeside lunch or a quiet coffee nook, the map highlights dozens of approved patios across town. It’s a simple way to discover new spots or revisit old favourites while the weather still plays along.

🏘️ Home Growth in Oakville

Oakville is part of a big housing surge across Halton, with nearly 5,500 new homes built in 2024, up 45% from the year before. Most of these were townhomes or apartments, with only 17% being single or semi-detached houses. Another 12,700 homes are under construction or just getting started, according to Halton Region’s latest State of Housing report.

Prices, however, remain high. In Oakville, the average resale home sold for $1.23 million last year. While some new apartments sold for under the town’s affordability target of $564,100, they were the exception. Rent also jumped nearly 10%, now averaging just under $2,000, and vacancy remains tight at 2.3%.

🛒 Opportunity to Save on Groceries

All Food Basics stores in Ontario, including Oakville locations, are now part of the “Too Good To Go” app, a platform that helps cut food waste by selling unsold items at steep discounts. Customers can now snag “surprise bags” of meat, bakery, dairy, or deli items starting at $5.99, with contents valued up to $30.

The app, already used by Metro and Super C stores, helps reduce waste while offering budget-friendly grocery options. Since launching in Canada in 2021, it’s helped save over 10 million meals.

🏒 Oakville Hockey Stars Eye Olympics

Four Oakville-born hockey players have been invited to Hockey Canada's Olympic Orientation Camp in Calgary ahead of the 2026 Winter Games in Italy. On the men’s side, Evan Bouchard of the Edmonton Oilers and John Tavares of the Toronto Maple Leafs made the list. Bouchard, a rising NHL defenceman, has built an impressive playoff resume, while veteran Tavares is looking to make his second Olympic appearance after helping Canada win gold in 2014.

Oakville is also well represented on the women's side. Two-time Olympic gold medalist Brianne Jenner, now with the Ottawa Charge of the PWHL, is aiming for her fourth Games, while forward Kristin O’Neil, currently with the New York Sirens, is hoping to make her Olympic debut. Both women have been key players for Team Canada at recent world championships.
