🛍️ Silk & Stone: Oakville’s Newest Artisanal Gift Store Opens This Saturday

Silk & Stone Instagram
Oakville’s small business community is about to get a big boost with the opening of Silk & Stone, a unique artisanal gift shop launching this Saturday, March 15. This brick-and-mortar marketplace provides local makers and artisans with a space to showcase and sell their handmade creations without the hassle of running a store themselves.
Silk & Stone operates primarily on a space rental model, where artisans pay a monthly fee to display their goods and keep 100% of their sales. For slower-selling items like wall art, the shop offers a commission-based model to ease financial pressure on creators. Beyond retail, the store will host pop-ups, workshops, and community events, making it a vibrant hub for Oakville’s creative scene.
With a mission to support small businesses and preserve the art of handmade, Silk & Stone invites the community to shop local and celebrate craftsmanship. Stop by on opening day and discover something special!
🚧 Bronte & Lakeshore: One-Way Stays (For Now!)

Kim Arnott | Oakville News
Frustrated by the stalled condo project at 85 Bronte Rd.? You’re not alone! One-way traffic on Bronte between Lakeshore and Marine was meant to ease construction—but with little progress in months, locals want their street back.
Councillors Sean O’Meara and Jonathan McNeice say they’re watching closely. The developer just renewed its permit, but without legal teeth, it’s a waiting game. If delays drag on, the town may rethink the restriction—especially with Bronte Village’s summer crowds incoming.
Looking ahead, Bronte Road could stay one-way for good, making room for patios, bike lanes, or wider sidewalks. What do you think? Change is coming, one way or another!

🌱 Get Growing: Oakville’s Seed Library Returns for 2025

Oakville’s Public Seed Library is back! Hosted by the Oakville Public Library (OPL), this annual program lets residents pick up three free seed packets to kickstart their gardens. Options include basil, kale, snow peas, and marigolds.
Launched on March 3, the initiative encourages community seed sharing. Gardeners can visit any OPL branch to grab seeds, grow their plants, and later donate harvested seeds to keep the program thriving.
Seeds are available first-come, first-served, so check with your local branch for availability. Need help? Growing and harvesting guides are also available. Happy planting, Oakville!
🏀 Oakville Teen Uses Love for Basketball to Raise Money for Cancer

Submitted by Aakanksha Grover to Oakville News
At just 16, Shaurya Grover is making an impact both on and off the basketball court. A player with Burloak Basketball and North Pole Hoops, Grover launched a summer basketball camp in Oakville to inspire young players while raising funds for cancer patients.
His motivation? His late grandmother, Kokila Grover, who passed away in 2023. “She was my favourite person in the whole world,” he shares. To honour her selfless spirit, Grover donates all proceeds from his $10 training sessions to Cancer Warrior, a local nonprofit.
With the help of his sister Shanaya, who runs a lemonade stand alongside the camps, the duo has raised $2,300 in two summers. Looking ahead, Grover dreams of playing pro basketball and expanding his camps to keep training affordable and accessible for all.
