⛵ Ship of Tolerance Draws Crowds to Oakville

The Ship of Tolerance | David Lea, InsideHalton
The grand opening of the Ship of Tolerance exhibition took place this past Saturday, May 31 at Gairloch Gardens, and the excitement is still going strong. Created by renowned artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, the 60-foot-long wooden ship features sails made from paintings by Oakville children, each expressing powerful messages of empathy, unity, and hope.
Part of the Heaven and Earth exhibition, the ship will be on display at 1308 Lakeshore Rd E, until September 20. With its stunning visuals and global message of peace, this exhibit is a must-see for art lovers, families, and anyone looking for inspiration this summer.
🚲 June is Bike Month!
June is Bike Month, and Oakville is ready to roll. Whether you're a daily cyclist or just dusting off your wheels, it’s the perfect time to enjoy biking as a fun, healthy, and eco-friendly way to get around. With a full calendar of events, there’s something for every rider, from commuters to casual cruisers.
Start things off on June 5 with Cycle to Work Day, stop by Dorval Crossing on June 14 for cycling fun at the Civitan Market, and join a guided community ride through Glen Abbey on June 21. Cycling not only supports physical fitness, it also helps reduce stress and boost mental well-being. With over 250 kilometres of bike-friendly paths and multi-use trails, plus bike racks on every Oakville Transit bus, it’s easier than ever to make cycling part of your everyday routine.
🏗️ Iroquois Ridge Renovations Extended into Fall
Oakville staff have confirmed that renovations at Iroquois Ridge Community Centre will now stretch into fall, missing the originally planned June completion. The delay is due to "unexpected underground conditions" discovered during construction. Work began in January to upgrade HVAC systems, install a new service desk, and complete other facility improvements. While the pool will remain closed through the summer, the fitness centre, community rooms, Older Adult Centre, and Library are still open, and all other town pools will operate as usual.

Community Spotlight
🏒 Hockey Helping Kids Tournament: A Huge Success!

The 10th annual Hockey Helping Kids Tournament lit up Joshua’s Creek Arenas in Oakville on May 24, raising an impressive $200,000 for the Smilezone Foundation. The day-long event featured 14 celebrity teams, family-friendly games, and plenty of heart, all in support of creating healing spaces for children in hospitals across Canada.
“This tournament is about more than hockey, it’s about community,” said co-founder Adam Graves. The funds will help build new Smilezones, which are bright and comforting spaces designed to ease the hospital experience for young patients. With more than 450 already created in 96 communities, this event’s success means even more children will have a reason to smile.
