🚒 Summer Splash with Oakville Fire
The Oakville Fire Department is hitting the road this summer with its annual Summer Splash series, visiting local splash pads on Wednesday evenings until August 20th. For those of you who didn’t make it to the kick-off yesterday, don’t worry, there are plenty more to come. Families can meet firefighters, explore fire trucks, and get hands-on fire safety tips, all while cooling off at the park.
The events run from 6-8pm and move to the next day in case of bad weather. Supported by Fortino’s South Oakville and Panago Pizza, attendees can grab a slice, a drink, and support a great cause, with all proceeds going to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.
📚 Telling Tales Turns 17 This Fall
The beloved Telling Tales Festival returns October 4-5 for its 17th year, taking over the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington with two days of literary magic. Featuring 50+ Canadian authors, illustrators, and storytellers across five themed tents, the festival invites kids of all ages to experience stories through readings, live performances, and hands-on activities, plus free access to Hendrie Park for all registered guests.
Families can swap books, meet favourite characters and authors, and enjoy music, puppetry, crafts, and nature walks. With zones tailored to age groups from toddlers to teens, the weekend blends creativity and curiosity with a focus on inclusion and fun. A fall tradition for many Oakville families, this year's festival promises to inspire once again.
🌲 Forest Bathing at Bronte Bluffs
Take a mindful pause next Tuesday, July 15, with a guided forest bathing session at Bronte Bluffs, hosted by Oakvillegreen Conservation Association. Running from 10am to noon, the experience is part of the Green Connections for Adults 55+ program and offers a chance to slow down and reconnect with nature through the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, led by certified forest therapy guide Sock Gee.
Participants will gently wander through the forest, heightening their senses and calming the mind, with a peaceful tea service to close. Dress for the weather, bring a sit pad if you have one, and enjoy a refreshing retreat into nature, rain or shine.

💰 Rotary Club Donates $10K to Safetynet

Safetynet Children and Youth Charities has received a $10,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Oakville, marking the first gift in the Club’s $100,000 pledge to local causes in honour of its 100th anniversary. The cheque was presented on June 24 to Executive Director Bill Shields, who praised the Rotary’s ongoing support of their work in the community.
The funds will help purchase three new drop-off bins for clothing donations, with $2,500 specifically allocated for feminine hygiene products. Safetynet, known for its clothing bank and other social services, continues to play a vital role in helping families across Oakville.
