Good morning Oakville. Fun fact of the day: Oakville’s downtown once had a working shipyard in the 1800s, building schooners that sailed the Great Lakes and carried goods across North America. Cool right?

Here is what to expect in today’s issue:

  • 🚦 Bronte Road one-way update, housing investment, Air Canada update

  • 🎾 Local tennis star needs our help

🚗 Bronte Road One-Way to Stay

A few issues ago, we asked what you thought about keeping Bronte Road between Lakeshore and Marine Drive as a one-way. Out of 63 votes, 52% said keep it, 29% wanted it back to two-way, and 19% were indifferent. Most supporters mentioned better safety, less traffic chaos, and a more walkable Bronte.

Now the Town has decided the one-way setup is staying. Since the change, accidents at the intersection have dropped sharply, from 36 in five years to just two. Staff say the new layout reduces vehicle conflict points and gives pedestrians a shorter crossing distance. The Town is also working with the condo developer to see if parts of the road can reopen for sidewalks and parking once construction wraps up.

💧 $3.3M for Pipes

Oakville is getting nearly $3.3 million from the province to build a new stormwater pipe along Sixth Line, clearing the way for around 278 new homes. The funding aims to speed up housing projects by tackling one of the biggest bottlenecks: underground infrastructure.

The project will improve drainage, reduce flood risk, and open land for development. Officials say it’s the kind of groundwork Oakville needs to hit its housing targets.

✈️ What’s Going On with Air Canada?

If you’ve got a flight booked, don’t panic. Air Canada started flying again Sunday evening after Ottawa stepped in to end a sudden strike by flight attendants. The federal government ordered both sides into binding arbitration just hours after the walkout began Saturday. Things may still be a bit bumpy early this week, but your travel plans should be back on track soon.

🎾 Oakville Tennis Prodigy Asks for Support

Lucian Enns, 14, is one of the top junior tennis players in Canada, and he’s just earned a spot at Nationals in Laval, Quebec. Representing Ontario, the Oakville teen will face the country’s best while competing in front of Tennis Canada’s top scouts. It’s a huge moment for a young athlete who’s already claimed the U14 provincial title and fought his way onto the national prospect team.

But after a difficult year that included his mother’s heart transplant, the family is struggling to afford the trip. They’re hoping to raise $2,800 through GoFundMe and are already most of the way there. If you want to help one of Oakville’s brightest young athletes take his shot, click the button below.
