🎬 OFFA Features a Record 105 Films
Mark your calendars, Oakville’s own film fest is almost here! The 2025 Oakville Film Festival kicks off Tuesday, June 18 with a family night at Film.Ca Cinemas featuring How to Train Your Dragon and fun pre-show activities. This year’s festival runs for eight days and includes a record 105 films. Expect Eastern Canadian premieres like Stealing the Sky and Sweet Summer Pow Wow, plus a Regency-themed Jane Austen tribute night. There’ll be galas, panel discussions, Indigenous performances, and even a four-day industry summit. Some events are free, but screenings and special nights require tickets.
🍻 Another Beer Store Closure in Oakville
Oakville will lose another Beer Store this summer, as the location at 1431 Rebecca St. is set to close on August 10. This follows the upcoming July 6 closures of stores at 104 Lakeshore Rd. W. and 1011 Upper Middle Rd. E., leaving just two locations remaining in town. These changes are likely the result of beer and other alcoholic drinks becoming more widely available through convenience stores last year. Will you miss the Beer Store or will your local corner store make due?
Where do you get your drinks?
🏗️ New High School Breaks Ground This Week
Construction is starting this month on a brand-new high school at 4020 Sixth Line, set to open its doors in September 2027. Designed for up to 1,338 students, the four-storey facility will include a two-storey open-concept library, a stage, music room, a gym, and a full-size sports field.
Even cooler? A seasonal dome with a turf field and an outdoor basketball court are part of the plan. With 88 licensed child-care spaces and a focus on natural lighting, the $71 million project is built to impress. HDSB Chair Amy Collard called the project “an exciting and important milestone,” and the official groundbreaking ceremony is set for Thursday, June 12 at 1 p.m.
